Wardrobe Essentials
Your closet is your wardrobe’s toolbox and much like a toolbox, there are some essential tools that need to be present first before branching out. You’re not going to have a shingle froe in your toolbox without having a hammer. Your closet needs to be treated the same way.
When you first start hanging up garments in your closet these are some of the first things that should be added. First and foremost, for any business professional you should have at least one navy, charcoal, or black suit. These colors are extremely versatile and refined. They allow for many different outfit combinations and can be worn for a multitude of occasions. They each have the versatility to be dressed up or dressed down.
Secondly, you will need to acquire a white/cream or blue button-down dress shirt. Again these colors are versatile and can be combined with any one of the suit colors listed above. A good rule to remember is that you can never have too many white button-up dress shirts.
One of the most important accessories you will ever buy is a power tie. Your tie is the centerpiece of your outfit and it must make a statement. A well-tied power tie is one great way to make a first impression. Oscar Wilde once said, “A well-tied tie is the first serious step in life.”
Now we get to footwear. An absolute must for your closet is a pair of both brown and black lace-up oxfords. These are essential classics that need to be your first footwear purchase. Versatility is key when starting your wardrobe and these must be apart of your wardrobe’s foundation.
Lastly, a classy accessory to add to your wardrobe is the pocket square. The pocket square is like the cherry on top of your outfit. It lets people know that you take your appearance seriously. It is a great way to add your own personal flair.
Once you have acquired these five essential pieces to your wardrobe you are freed up to experiment and get creative. Building your wardrobe is a process and it takes time. However, adding these essentials will make the process easier, faster, and more enjoyable. Just remember versatility is key.
